Hello Friend,
I'm sure when you were young most of you played the old telephone game with two tin cans connected by a string. You have one can to your ear listening while your best friend has one in the other room talking into it. Well, my friend, you were starting early with social media.
For those of you who think Facebook is just about posting dinner ideas and your latest vacation or twitter is just about telling people what restaurant you are at and with what group of friends, you are missing a very large boat.
Remember how your friend would recommend the latest gadget or your neighbor would tell you about a sale at the local market, that was simply offline social media. With such a large percentage of business being done online, you need to make sure your business is getting a piece of the social media pie.
Each one of your 130 Facebook friends has an average of 130 friends. This means 16,900 people in 2 degrees would see that recommendation. Imagine how many more in 3 or 4 degrees! Every time that one person "likes" or "fans" a page, it goes in front of their 130 friends, who could potentially "like" or share your information with their average number of 130 friends.
Yet, there is a trick to the trade! You want to use Social Media in a way that grows your business and keeps people engaged. It's a form of nurturing, it needs consistency, plus you need to build interest and trust. If you get people involved they will be your best form of advertising on a global scale.
It can be a huge task to do it yourself or finding a reputable company or consultant to do it for you. So ask for referrals from people you trust (ahhhh maybe on Facebook) and interview companies. Here are a few points and questions to verify your potential company/consultant:
Ask to see examples of recent work; Ask what defines success of a campaign; What metrics or reporting is available? The most important piece of information is finding a company that will work with your niche and fit your needs.
However you go about it, pick up your tin can, yank on the string and get people talking about your business.
