Long tail keywords may sound like something an animal has, but in this case it is referencing the longer keyword phrases. Common phrases like "bass fishing" may get you results, but after a while you may wonder why your rankings are lagging behind.

Yes, there are a lot of people looking for that phrase. Yes, it is an easy phrase to add to your website. The problem is many other people are likely using it as well. Some may be experts who know exactly how to get on the front page. Others may be able to hire those experts. Some may have websites that have aged and built quality links all along.

Sure you want to be on the front page of search engine results for all of your keywords, and yes, that can be done. However, it may be wiser to go after some long tail key words that are not as common but still get traffic. Often, if you can add a few more words or phrases to your efforts and a whole new market opens up for you.

This is what Joel McDonald shares with you today, how adding a "long tail" to your keyword or phrase can help your business. So if you want to be on the front page of Google, you can!
