If you have a job but are looking to have your own business eventually, freelancing is an ideal way to get started. For many business owners, this is how they originally got their feet wet and started towards that first business.
This is the way to get started working from home without quitting your current job. Many places do not require any special permits or licenses to register to work a freelance job. The major cautionary tales that business owners will share will be regarding taxes and your current job.
First: It is not necessary to tell your current employer unless you have an understanding employer. Freelance work can be done on your own away from work.
Second: Keep records of all business income and expenses for tax purposes.
Third: It requires work.
To sum up, if you want to become a freelancer, do it. You can spend months, or even years researching opportunities on how to get started. Research is great, but if you never take an action step, you'll never get started.
