The topic this week in StomperNet is Branding. While branding may sound like something that is done with cattle, in this case it is a bit different... but it does have some similarities.
When branding cattle, a mark is left on their flesh that associates the animal with the owner. In the same way, branding your business associates your products, services, and your basic presence online and offline with you. Branding is an important part of your business that helps people identify your business from other businesses within your field.
Branding, defined by the American Marketing Association (AMA):
A name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's good or service as distinct from those of other sellers. The legal term for brand is trademark. A brand may identify one item, a family of items, or all items of that seller. If used for the firm as a whole, the preferred term is trade name.
In order for your brand to stand out, it requires that your presence, your products, the way you handle clients and potential clients is consistent. Inconsistency means your potential customers may stray to competitors. Being consistent in and with everything associated with your company creates an impression (good or bad) that your customers begin to recognize.
Creating a strong, cohesive and positive brand is obviously very important. Strong branding creates a recognizable connection between you and your clients that helps your business succeed. The information this week will help you develop or refine your branding.
